Oh Baby

My friend Martha had her first baby. Ar they not the cutest? I love the sheer happiness on Martha's face! Do you notice the smirk on the baby girl's sweet face?

Well, my natural childbirth friend came from one of the other wards when the stake was rearranged and although she had a shower with work friends and a few from her old ward, we had had to throw her a shower. With MUCH help from other gal's the shower was at my home. I basically just offered my home and decorated a small bit. The other gal's did the invites, food assignments, and group gift. I did have fun decorating though. The night before when I was putting things together Roger asked if I was having fun and I noticed the smile I had on my face. Yes, I was having fun.

Since she already had her baby (ward split, other showers, and bed rest), I had picture from her blog and facebook decorating the table. It was actually fun to have the celebrated baby there. Do you like my watermelon stroller? It was actually very easy to make.

What a beautiful new mom! I am so glad I was able to help celebrate her and her sweet bundle!

My Stud

My man, he is amazing. In every way possible, he is a stud. He is more private than I am, which is not hard to be, so I won't go into too much detail. Just know that he makes my life easier, safer, more fun, more loved, more cozy and on. I can't imagine being happier. He loves his kids and creates more fun for them than I do. Here he is at the Clowning Around with Dad Primary Activity yesterday. What is he wearing you ask?

Just a shirt I made up. For him.

and my dad (his other grand kids call him Papa). I love you Daddy!

and I sold a few to friends too.

And now this becomes less about Roger and is an advertisement. Let me know if you want to buy one for grandmas, grandpas, dad etc for bdays, Christmas, or next Father's Day. $15.

That's enough about that:)

Teacher Quilt

Rory's teacher is retiring and going on a mission to the Ukraine(!)so the room mom (not me this year!) asked me to whip this diddy up. Once again I got the design idea from Crazymomquilts. It was a super fast quilt considering the large squares, stitching in the ditch, and machine stitching the binding on. I needed it to be fast since this weekend was Levi's blessing and we have family here. I am tempted to rip open the binding a hand stitch it in since I am not happy with how it looks. We'll see. . .

The last day of school is the 18th and I am only a bit nervous to entertain my children enough to keep them happy. Or should I say me happy?

Sewing Machine

Sew Mama Sew is having Sewing Machine Month and is having great prizes. They asked us to write about our sewing machine and I know friends have asked too. So here is my baby:

What brand and model do you have? Kenmore 385.15108200- Basic Sears Model

How long have you had it? 6 Years

How much does that machine cost (approximately)? around $150

What types of things do you sew ? Diaper Bags, quilts, clothing

How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get? Average 5 hours a week I am guessing. I wear it really hard with the home decor fabric and vinyl layers.

Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name? I am very proud of what my machine has accomplished for such a dinky thing. I have tried other people's machine and didn't like theirs as much as mine. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a new high tech machine that does the works and embroiders and has a longer arm and and and. . .

What features does your machine have that work well for you? Just the basics- straight and zig zag

Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine? Hmmm that my zig zag line lengths can't change- just the distance apart. Not to the point of driving me nuts though.

Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it! No great stories- sorry. I lost the detachable part of my arm back when I really did not know how to use it and it sat in storage. I would have loved the extra work space but forget I even had it.

Would you recommend the machine to others? Why? It has done me so good how could I not. If you are looking for the basics than it works great. The machine and I worked out most of our kinks a couple years ago. I rarely break thread or needles anymore.

What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine? The kind of stitches you want, access to different feet, price vs features. I wish my needle stopped in the optional or down place. Also I wish mine had a longer bed to have more for machine quilting.

Do you have a dream machine? I really don't look because I know I am not going to get one anytime soon.

Buttterfly House

When Em and Robyn were here we took the wee ones to an Eco Center in Newport beach (Thanks Niki). It was just the right size and price(free) for a tiny adventure. We saw some skin:

and some butterflies!

Good Fun!
